Roderik

I grew up in various African countries as my parents’ NGO work took our family to underprivileged communities across the continent. It is among the campfires of the Kalahari Desert that I was introduced to storytelling by the first peoples in human history: the Bushmen.

The Bushmen tell stories which know no age. The way in which their story-world came to life in my imagination as a child, has stuck with me forever. Storytelling is something that humans have been doing for as long as we can tell. It is what makes us understand the world and the people around us.

To me, film is the most gripping form of storytelling yet invented. Film hold the power to transport its viewers to the perspective of somebody else, making it the ultimate empathy-machine. In a globalised world with plenty of empathy-chasms between cultures and people, film is an underexploited weapon.

Locked and loaded and ready to make use of this weapon, I am dedicating my working life to making films that will help people to better understand each other and themselves. My main focus is on documentary production, line production and post-production. I have a special interest in getting important films to the masses, which led me to do an internship at Cinema Delicatessen in 2018.

I am currently in my graduation-year at The Netherlands Film Academy and working hard on my diploma-films.
